Announcing UHC Patient Safety Net

Posted May 25, 2004

What is UHC Patient Safety Net (PSN)?

  • The University HealthSystem Consortium Patient Safety Net (UHC PSN) can be used to help you voice your safety concerns.
  • PSN is a web based event reporting system that will help us to streamline our current process. We will delete many of the paper forms that we are now using to report an event (e.g., Service Concern Form, Patient/Visitor Event Form).
  • Includes the reporting of medication events as well as a wide range of other events (patient falls, unexpected events during surgery or invasive procedures, events related to laboratory or radiology testing, missing or incorrect patient ID, service concerns, communication issues, privacy/confidentiality issues, environmental hazards, etc....).
  • Will replace our current on-line Medication Event Reporting and Adverse Drug Reporting systems.
  • Events can be reported by all Johns Hopkins employees who have access to Public workstations. No password is required.
  • It will allow us to find and correct system problems by data trending and benchmarking against other hospitals.
  • Will allow e-mail notification of events to appropriate managers and supervisors.

When will UHC PSN be implemented and how?

  • Official go live date was July 7th, 2004.
  • Training classes are being set up for managers, supervisors, PI representatives, and educators, who will then be providing training to their staff.
  • Look for monthly education sessions highlighting PSN - next month we will highlight what types of events get entered into PSN.
  • Go to the Patient Safety Net Website
