Tahsin Kurc's research interests include algorithms and runtime systems for high-performance and data-intensive computing, parallel supercomputing applications, scientific visualization on parallel computers, and distributed computing. He earned his PhD in computer science from Bilkent University, Turkey, in 1997. He was a post- doctoral research associate in the Computer Science Department at the University of Maryland from July 1997 to July 2000. At Bilkent University, he developed novel techniques for scientific visualization on parallel computers. At the University of Maryland, he has been involved in the design and implementation of high-performance runtime systems to support manipulation of large scientific datasets on parallel machines and in distributed computing environments; he has been one of the primary developers of the Active Data Repository, a C++ class library and runtime system for developing data servers for multi- dimensional scientific datasets, and DataCutter, a middleware that enables processing of scientific datasets stored in archival storage systems across a wide-area network.
