Baojin Fu, M.D.
Baojin Fu, M.D. was born in China and came to the United States in 1999. He worked at the National Cancer Institute for 5 years studying cervical cancer before coming to Johns Hopkins to join the Iacobuzio lab in the Division of Gastrointestinal Pathology thanks to the generous support of the Joseph C. Monastra Foundation. His work is focused on identifying the genes directly involved or associated with the development of pancreatic cancer and its spread to other organs. The techniques that he is using for his research include Fluorescence In Situ Hybridization (FISH), a technique that allows the detection of extra copies of genes in pancreatic cancer tissues; Methylation-Specific PCR (MSP), a method that helps determine which genes a cancer cell turns "on" or "off" to help it grow; and Representational Oligonucleotide Microarray Analysis (ROMA), a cutting-edge method of evaluating all changes of cancer genes simultaneously. |
