Support Research on Barrett's Esophagus and Cancer of the Esophagus at Johns Hopkins University

While advancements in routine slide interpretation among pathologists, novel therapy for premalignant change, and basic research on esophagus cancer are all ongoing at Johns Hopkins, we have more ideas and leads than resources for pursuit of these. The remaining budget comes from private donations. Each donation can help us explore novel avenues of research for both Barrett's esophagus and for cancer of the esophagus. If you wish to support Barrett's esophagus and esophagus cancer research at Johns Hopkins, please send your tax-deductible contribution payable to The Johns University to:

Create a Permanent Named Endowment for Barrett's Esophagus and Esophagus Cancer Research

Individuals interested in making substantial donations to support Barrett's esophagus and esophageal cancer research may prefer to create a permanent named endowment. Such gifts not only honor a loved one but assist in efforts against Barrett's esophagus and esophagus cancer, which is a rapidly increasing cancer type in the United States. Named endowments can be established at several levels, and include a named research endowment (such endowments usually begin at $100,000), a named research fellowship, or a named Professorship for Barrett's esophagus and esophagus cancer research.

If you are interested in learning more about how to create a named endowment for Barrett's esophagus and esophagus cancer research, please contact Dr. Montgomery at 410-614-2308 or Dr. Hruban at 410-955-9132.

In Lieu of Flowers

We have received a number of donations in lieu of flowers. This is a wonderful way to both honor a loved one and to help fight this terrible disease. These donations are made at very difficult times, and we therefore wanted to simplify the process. If you have lost a loved one and would like donations sent to Hopkins to help battle this disease in lieu of flowers, all you need to do is:

    1. Ask the donor to:
    • Make donations payable to: "Johns Hopkins University."

    • Indicate on the memo line of the check the name of the individual in whose memory the donation is being made.

    2. Mail the donation to:

    Elizabeth Montgomery, MD
    The Johns Hopkins Hospital
    Weinberg 2242
    401 N Broadway
    Baltimore, MD 21231
    3. Please call Roger D. King (410-614-6330) to give us the name and address of where you would like acknowledgments to be sent.

When we receive memorial donations, we send a thank you to the donor and we also send a complete list of the names and address of the donors to the individual listed in #3.

We realize that the death of a loved one is extremely difficult. We hope these simplified instructions will help those of you who wish to honor your loved one with bequests to Johns Hopkins for esophageal cancer research.
