Chapter 12: Urine
Benign Conditions

Decoy cells caused by infection of urothelial cells with human polyoma (BK) virus.  These cells are so named because they may be mistaken for malignant cells.  Although their nuclei may be enlarged and hyperchromatic (like malignant cells), they have either smudgy chromatin or homogeneous nuclear inclusions.  (Voided urine, Pap, 630x)
