BIOPSY REVIEW - Getting A Second Opinion

To have your liver biopsy reviewed by a Pathologist at Johns Hopkins.. If you have been told you have primary liver cancer you may wish to have a second opinion on your slides. Since many pathologists have limited experience with interpreting these biopsies, it is often recommended that a second opinion be sought before a patient undergoes treatment.

Patients whose slides have been reviewed at another laboratory who would like a second opinion at Johns Hopkins may obtain their slides and send them or have the laboratory send them directly to Johns Hopkins. If send them yourself, be sure to include the report from the other laboratory. This report contains a code number (called the surgical pathology accession number) for the slides that must be matched with the microscope slides to assure that the slides are indeed from you!

There is a charge for this service, usually around $200 dollars.
