Clinical Background:

Identification of clonal rearrangements of the IgH gene supports the diagnosis of a lymphocytic malignancy, in an appropriate clinical and pathologic setting.

The detection of clonal B-cell populations is not, by itself, necessarily diagnostic of a B-cell malignancy.

Frequently, clonality assays are used on otherwise equivocal diagnostic cases.
