Clinical Background:

Allogeneic BMT is a common treatment used with curative intent in patients with a variety of hematologic malignancies arising in bone marrow derived cells. Effective therapy requires:

  • Complete myeloablation of the patient’s bone marrow
  • A donor, preferably living-related and HLA matched to the patient
  • A short period of immunosuppresion of the recipient after transplantation
