The friends and family of Druel Parker exemplify how private donations can honor loved ones and, at the same time, have a significant impact in the war against pancreatic cancer. When Druel died, the Parker Family sent all donations to Johns Hopkins. Since then, they have sent donations to celebrate Druel's birthday and to honor him on the anniversary of his death. Druella, Allen and his family threw a 70th birthday party for Velma. In lieu of gifts, those present were asked to bring donations for pancreatic cancer research. Velma, Druella, and Alise Antonio, Velma's daughter, drove to Baltimore, Maryland to meet Dr. Hruban, visit the research laboratories and scientists, and present the donations raised at Velma's 70th birthday party.
The Parker Family is dedicated to the fight against pancreatic cancer in the hope that some day no other family will have to suffer. The family feels that it is only through research that a test will be developed and a cure or treatment found to end the suffering and loss from pancreatic cancer.
